Tamara essay competition

Stichting Skrifi, the SULA platform, and the Dutch Language Union (Taalunie) are organizing the TAMARA essay competition for young people aged 15 to 25 as part of Dutch Language Week.

Write an essay of no more than 750 words on:

“What could oil and gas development mean for Suriname?”

Could oil and gas development create more jobs, improve education, and open up new opportunities? Or does this development also bring risks? And how can we ensure that the revenues from oil and gas benefit not only people today but also future generations?

Show us how you see it. What opportunities do you see for the economy, education, employment, and society? What do you think Suriname should do with the revenues? And what challenges or risks should we not lose sight of?

You do not have to be an expert. We are especially interested in your ideas, questions, and vision for the future of Suriname.
